Edward 'Tanner' Hawkwood - tinkerer, drinker, soldier, and wrestler, but most of all a bibliophile in our hard times. Below is a list of his somewhat impressive library (expecially considering he is a journeyman sell-sword and engineer).
''The Book of Five Swords'' - a military treatise on tactics, strategy, and weapons techniques. A good introduction for the green commander, with enough information to be useful to grizzled old veterans.
''Introductory Lessons on Siege Engines'' - The 'siege engines for dummies' of its day. Good introduction to field artillery for the novice combat engineer. It provides a decent guide to scorpions and simple ballistas.
''Basic Concepts of Mechanics'' - A novice engineer's guide to building windmills, gristmills, and basic pump systems.
''The Story of Tobin Thalion'' - A biography of Tobin Thalion which provides insight into his choice of tactics and strategy.
''Thalion's Lieutenants'' - A biography of Thalion's top subordinates. It provides insight into their choice of tactics.
''History of Anglia'' - A general history of Anglia. Provides a basic overview of how Anglian society works.
''The Prince'' by Niccolo Machiavelli - How to run a state effectively. Advanced political thought.
''Siege Engines and Fortifications'' - Advanced artillery and fortifications. Would show how to build a trebuchet and a castle.
''Improved Rivercraft and Navigation'' - How to make more effective rivercraft and docks, along with basic maintenance of waterways.
''Improved Contruction Techniques'' - Beginner and intermediate construction techniques.
''The Notebook'' - Intermediate to expert ideas on construction, machines, and weapons. Includes designs for siege cannons and Greek fire. So advanced most people could not grasp the ideas at work.
