Tanners Traits

Tanner's Traits

1. Unlike many people of the South, Tanner does have some kind of religious faith. He could be considered a believer in the gods of war. He won’t worship any other gods, but thinks there has to be something more powerful than himself. And as there has been much war, he chooses the war god. His faith is not like that of the people of the North – a pantheon of gods makes no sense. Tanner’s experience with the religious hierarchy of the North leaves him unimpressed; it reminds him of pre-Reformation Christendom; some of it is sincere and valid, but most of it seems to be a struggle for power and money.

2. Tanner is deliberate in his thinking and even in his temper; he will always weigh the odds in front him, and try to choose what he sees as the best course. With the exception of people trying to rob his or cheat his employer, (and the occasional Redleg force), Tanner will be respectful to all people, including non-government types from the North.

3. Tanner is a binge drinker. If on caravan duty, he’ll drink sparingly. When working a military operation, he’ll abstain. But if he is working as hired muscle or as a mechanic, at least once to three times in a quarter of a year, he’ll get knee walking drunk for a week.

4. Tanner is literate. Since books and scrolls are hard to come by, he’ll read anything he can get his hands on. He is always on the lookout for military writings and anything to do with industry (windmills, machines, etc) and philosophy. He might kill for the plans and tools to build a trebuchet.

5. Tanner has few friends, but has the respect of all his employers and the men he has worked with as standup man (except for the occasional binge episode). He regards most people with a slightly positive attitude. If you make an enemy of Tanner, your family, friends, and property are valid targets until revenge has been paid back seven-fold.

6. Tanner wears brown and black all of the time; he avoids the green to stay clear of the Redlegs; besides, Tanner has noticed someone in brown is harder to see on the plains and in the forests.
