Faolan

A bard and a swordsman who has found himself caught up in many Adventures throughout Anglia and the Frontier in the recent years. He's the Salt Child of an unknown Gael raider (most likely a Mullins) and a coastal woman. According to the many songs he has written about himself, He "was born in the snows of the far-eastern mountains", but he did most of his growing up "on the Frontier". It is known to friends that many years ago his maternal grandfather, Maillach, was a well-loved gladiator in Anglia City, and he instilled in Faolan a hatred of Anglian oppression and slavery. While he often disagrees with Frontier politicians, Faolan has taken up the cause of the Frontier as his own.

Faolan has become an accomplished bard who rarely pays for a drink, but he spends freely on women, quality arms and armor, and good food. He has been known to blow his coin on fine clothes, as well.

Faolan wields an enchanted blade, Frehitnsang, that he received from the Chest of Longing, and he owns other quality weapons (including a shield and a masterwork blade, Kingslayer, both made by Orin Ironheart). He owns 3 mounts Grey (a warhorse), John (a palfrey), and Aleksandr (a thoroughbred), each named for one who called himself King in Anglia. Faolan has started a ranch with Samson and Tanner, and is making plans to sell and distribute corn liquor. On New Year's Day 2438 Faolan bought the 5 acres of land that include the Dragon Garden from Lord Wallace. He has some political aspirations as well. Of course, his primary goal is making himself the greatest hero of legend.

Faolan has become a member of the Jade Swallow, particularly because their ideas of individualism and resisting the control of a collective have great appeal to him.

Faolan is known as the Queen's Consort by adherents in the Church of Queen Anne, and the Red Devil by disbelievers.

After preventing the Redlegs from tampering with the Frontier Council Elections of 2438, then rescuing Tanner from imprisonment and (probable) certain death. Faolan became an outlaw in Anglia, as well as in the Occupied Frontier. Long a friend of Lord Gahanna, Faolan is now an 'executive officer' in Lord Gahanna's Host.

Appearance: Faolan stands six feet, four inches, and is pale-complected with a headful of flame red hair. One of his eyes is blue, and the other green. He prefers to wear well-made, tailored clothes, primarily in reds and greens, and often with a wolf motif. When he dresses in Gaelish fashion, he wears Mullins tartan. He wears Bexari-style boots and a sealskin belt with a Jade Swallow buckle, from which hang two Bexari-style fighting knives. Frehitnsang usually hangs over his left hip in a sealskin breakaway scabbard, and he will also wear Kingslayer slung across his back. He wears a leather bracer on his left arm, and on each hand he wears a large gold ring cut from the hands of princes of the Underworld.

Fortunes Told

13/12/2433 Lady Blue told Faolan that:

*It appears his grandfather, Maillach, "is still alive and fighting"

*Some in the Underworld want to 'bring their way here', but some do not, and that this is a source of conflict that will somehow involve Faolan and a powerful wizard.

*There is a new Emperor, and that his rise and fall will be somehow entwined with Faolan's.

This reading very much bothered Lady Blue, and she asked Faolan not to return until he could tell her who the new Emperor might be.

13/28/2433 Xara told Faolan that:

*Three forces are pulling at him

*In the future, Faolan will choose fighting over reason

*Faolan will not seek a lover, but a lover seeks Faolan.

*There is a great danger coming, and what happens will depend on my choices

*There is a powerful force from the Underworld which means me harm.

Xara asked Faolan not to return, and she seemed very shaken by the reading

7/24/36 Esmer told Faolan that:

*He has been influenced by a powerful woman of magic

*The Queen is not royal

*Danger follows Faolan and Tanner

*Maillach is living somewhere in Anglia, and has become friends with a powerful mage who has helped him survive.

*Faolan has been involved with one king, and will be involved with another. When we find the second king, we will know why the Kaluut attacked at The Falls.
