Episode 9
spans the dates from November 2435 until March 28, 2436, including 13 weeks of training in Martin's Ferry.
The session opened with Our Heroes making the trip back from the defeat of the Rios. Along the way, Faolan used his telepathic ability to read the minds of as many leaders of the Frontier Militia and Lord Gahanna's Host as possible. Bramma, catching on to his antics, politely insisted that he cease and desist the readings of Lord Gahanna and his leaders. Faolan wisely followed her friendly advice.
It had become clear to Faolan that Samson now felt intense personal loyalty to Beale, though he elected not to mention this to anyone, including Tanner. Sad farewells were said upon the return to East Point, as Samson, Princess Bexar, and a few of the Checotah made took their leave to return to settle in the newly depopulated lands of Old Bexar.
The next day, a woman called Janna arrived at East Point, summoning Tanner and Faolan to visit Councilor Macon. The boys elected to go the following day, and were shocked to find Ahnah dressed up like a girl. She spoke to them of her experiences in politics, and she whined about not having been able to kill anyone in a long time. Ahnah also told them that Beale had been having some significant problems, and would not be able to join them on further adventures, at least for now. She then presented them with beautiful, worked-leather vambraces that would grant them limited access to Hasting and Healing magicks. Ahnah also asked that they keep her informed of the political situation in the North.
The two heroes set out to catch up with the Host at Jackson, where Gahanna was having his men demolish Lord Jackson's winter stores, as armed guests do so well. En route, they ran into yet another Underworld Ambush while crossing Lord Wallace's lands, but they still made it to Jackson in time to join in the fun. Regan, their new young friend, even had new clothing made from a few of the surviving Jackson Manse curtains.
As the Host moved Northward towards the capital, Faolan, Tanner, and a few hundred of their closest friends descended on the most recent incarnation of the Bardstown Fair. Highlights included Faolan winning the Bardic Competition (in the final round, he extemporaneously recited a grand telling of the recent victory over the Rios) and the purchase of a map that detailed the lands around the Ice River.
Eventually, the Host made it's way to Anglia City, and while the soldiers camped across the river, Gahanna, his leadership cadre, and Our Heroes was invited to stay at the castle. A grand reception was held for the victorious Lord Gahanna.
That evening, Tanner danced up a storm with many of the ladies present, and then managed to spend an intimate evening with two of the Tiren sisters. Faolan relegated himself to looking after Regan and terrorizing a few young Anglian noblemen who didn't know best when to keep their thoughts to themselves. Soiled clothing ensued.
Later that night, Underworld forces, wearing the same insignia as Shem, appeared outside Our Heroes' rooms and attacked. Tanner covered himself with glory as he grappled an Ape-Man, and the attackers were killed. Lord Huber was witness to the events, and that likely kept Our Heroes out of trouble (though they camped across the river the next night).
The next morning, Our Heroes were invited to dine with the Royal Family, and Faolan a wondrous few moments to speak privily with Queen Anne. Plans were discussed for potential futures, though the Queen promised nothing. Faolan kept the Boy King amused as always, and a good time was had by all.
The Host then moved on towards Martin's Ferry, with plans to winter with Lord Gahanna. Tanner spent the cold months working in the library, and becoming perhaps the Frontier's most advanced student of engineering. Taking advantage of being in the center of Anglian military might, Tanner studied up on Military Science and mastered the heavy lance. When he wasn't in Gilda's arms, Faolan spent his time training with sword, bow, and glaive.
Faolan's 21st birthday found him in Martin's ferry, contemplating his future, knowing a fiery apocalypse was on the way.
