Daren Fawley, aka "Hedge"

Daren is the third son of a modestly successful farmer in the frontier. Being the third son in a society that practices primogeniture, Daren looked to have a future carving his own slice of the frontier for himself. His father felt protective of Daren because he was always a quiet, reserved child. He worried what kind of future Daren could make for himself. One day when he was10 years old, Daren fell out of the barn loft and broke his arm. Daren never cried or even let on that anything was amiss. Daren consistently exhibited a high tolerance for pain and a strong sense of willpower. Daren's father knew an old warrior that lived on the outskirts of the local village that had a reputation for toughness in battle and convinced the warrior to train Daren in the ways of war in hopes of increasing Daren's survival skills. What Daren's father didn't know was that the methods used by the warrior to demonstrate toughness on the battlefield stemmed from his training in Sorceries of the Mind, a fact that he was unwilling to reveal to others in the frontier. At the age of 12, Daren began his training in swordsmanship and mind magic. After a 5-year apprenticeship, Daren entered into the local militia in the waning days of the Frontier Council's Rebellion. While he did exhibit courage in a short enlistment, it was 5 years ago and now, at age 22, Daren is little more than a hard-luck sellsword.
